The government’s Making Tax Digital (MTD) initiative is due to be implemented between 2018 and 2020, and is intended to create a 'transparent and accessible tax system fit for the digital age'.
Our factsheet provides an overview of some of the key elements of these digitalisation plans, including information on the government's response to the feedback it has received from businesses.
Please note that following Theresa May’s decision to call a snap general election on 8 June, the government subsequently removed legislation to implement MTD from the Finance Bill 2017.
The clauses are likely to be reinstated after the general election, when there will be more time to debate the measures in greater detail.
